Church
History
On a Saturday night, October
6, 2001, I received a phone call from a church member that proved to
be a challenge at the least. Our church was on fire! I rushed down to
the church and had to make my way past 3 fire trucks, where I was met
by other church members who were already watching the blaze from the
parking lot. After the flames were extinguished, doors were propped
open to clear the buildings of the smoke-and a rebuilding program began.
We had the previous year built a gorgeous Fellowship Hall which now
was converted to become our Auditorium for the next 3 years. This pictorial
page is dedicated to the people of Temple Baptist Church-who "endured
hardness as good soldiers" and were finally blessed with a breath-taking
auditorium.

PRAISE THE LORD, for what He has done . . .
Our church was founded in 1963, having begun in a rented Seventh
Day Adventist Church. Over the years, Temple Baptist Church became
a familiar site with the "shotgun" auditorium. Here,
we saw God's blessings time and again and have many wonderful
memories.

|
Right
after the fire, we were forced to permanently close the old auditorium,
once and for all. An electrical fire resulted in flames that shot
upwards of 30 feet above the roof. The resulting damage was water
damage throughout the building and smoke damage in all remaining
buildings. A blue tarp covered the hole, thus minimizing further
damage.

This
became our new home for the next 3 years. It was a real blessing
in that we were able to use it-the next morning!
|
After
waiting 14 months for our insurance settlement, we were ready
to press on and got rid of the old, making way for the new.
|
|
Rather
than rebuilding in the same location, it was decided to rebuild
with a Colonial look. A large Main Foyer was carved out of the
existing space, making room for chandeliers-and people!
|
|
While
Job was sorely tested and tried, in the end, he became a better
person and was blessed beyond his wildest imaginations. While
recovering from the fire, God had yet another test for His people-a
flood!
|
|
These
were exciting days for our people! Every service was an opportunity
to discover what new part of the project had been completed!
|
|
What
a thrill it was to finally behold the finished product! After
waiting for such a long time, we can only marvel at what God has
done for us-and through us!
